I do not understand the actions of Mathilde in The Necklace. Her decisions seem to surround the notion of being richer and more greedy. She could have owned up to her mistakes but instead she did not want to tell her friend that she had lost it. This made her a hardened woman who had to pay off her debts. Even when her husband sacrificed his summer vacation for a dress she was not impressed. Consequently, she wanted more extravagant jewelry even when her friend offered her a large assortment. This is behaviour that I do not understand and maybe never will.
Every person should have the chance to walk with everybody else because people make mistakes in their life and want a second chance. For example, drug addicts have gone to rehabilitation centers and have come out stronger and ready to join society. But instead many people will not give that person a chance because of their dark past and then that person must live as an outcast because of one mistake. I see this as an unfair notion because as kids and young adults make countless other mistakes that may not affect the rest of their life like drug abuse can. The stories of successful drug rehab patients are very limited because of exclusion or discrimination because of their past. This should change so that more people are able to live their lives properly.
